CANAL+ has secured exclusive broadcasting rights to all UEFA men’s club competitions across more than 40 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa for four seasons, beginning in mid-2027.
The agreement will give CANAL+ exclusive rights, in all languages, to broadcast the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League until 2031.
In English-speaking and Portuguese-speaking African markets, the competitions will continue to be shown exclusively on SuperSport, which has been a long-standing broadcaster of UEFA football.
The deal further strengthens SuperSport’s position as one of the continent’s leading sports platforms, with subscribers set to retain access to Europe’s biggest clubs and players.
In French-speaking Africa, CANAL+ Sport will provide full coverage of the UEFA Champions League, while also broadcasting the Europa League and Conference League exclusively in French for the first time.
The agreement is expected to bring some of Europe’s biggest clubs and leading players to audiences across the region, including Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Serhou Guirassy, Amad Diallo, Bryan Mbeumo, Antoine Semenyo, Nicolas Jackson and Achraf Hakimi.
Other international stars expected to feature include Kylian Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé, Lamine Yamal, Erling Haaland, Michael Olise and Harry Kane.
CANAL+ Chief Executive Officer Maxime Saada described the agreement as an important addition to the company’s growing sports portfolio in Africa.
“We are very proud of this new partnership, which gives us exclusive rights to all UEFA Men’s Club competitions across more than 40 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa,” Saada said.
“For four seasons, until 2031, our subscribers will enjoy the thrill of the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League’s biggest matches.”
The broadcaster already holds rights to several major football competitions, including the English Premier League, La Liga, France’s Ligue 1 and South Africa’s Betway Premiership.
Saada said the latest acquisition underlined CANAL+’s ambition to become the leading destination for premium sports content in the region.
“Today, CANAL+ offers the most attractive sports line-up across Sub-Saharan Africa, and the acquisition of these rights is a perfect illustration of that,” he said.
The company also thanked UC3 and Relevent for the partnership, which follows similar rights agreements covering France, Switzerland, Belgium, Poland and Austria.
