A Nairobi court will on November 19, 2026, determine whether a Kenyan man wanted in the United Kingdom over the alleged murder of his girlfriend will be extradited to face trial.
Brian Kiprop Kiplagat is accused of killing Maryanne Nduta Kilonzo, a Kenyan career banker who was living and working in London at the time of her death in January 2025.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has urged Milimani Principal Magistrate Caroline Mugo to allow an extradition request filed by British authorities seeking Kiplagat's return to the UK to face criminal proceedings.
Prosecutors argue that the suspect should be handed over to British authorities to answer to the allegations surrounding Kilonzo's death.
Kiplagat allegedly fled the UK shortly after the killing, triggering an international search involving British and Kenyan law enforcement agencies.
He was eventually arrested on June 10, 2026, at the Namanga border while allegedly attempting to cross into Tanzania.
During earlier proceedings, the prosecution opposed his release on bond, arguing that his movements after leaving Britain demonstrated a significant risk of absconding.
In a previous ruling denying him bail, Magistrate Mugo observed that "the fugitive is a flight risk" and that releasing him could increase the likelihood of his disappearance.
British authorities are seeking his extradition in connection with allegations of murder, manslaughter and perverting the course of justice.
The case has brought renewed attention to cooperation between Kenyan and British authorities in pursuing suspects accused of committing serious crimes abroad.
