CANAL+ and Samsung Electronics have expanded their strategic partnership across English and Portuguese-speaking African markets served by MultiChoice Group, in a deal that will see the DStv Stream app pre-installed on new Samsung Smart TVs.
The rollout, which began on June 1, 2026, covers 18 African countries, including Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, Angola, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
According to the companies, the partnership marks the first time a MultiChoice Group streaming application has been pre-installed on Samsung Smart TVs across these markets.
The move is expected to strengthen access to MultiChoice Group’s streaming and over-the-top content ecosystem, as competition for digital audiences continues to grow across the continent.
The DStv Stream app will be directly accessible from the home screen of new Samsung Smart TVs, allowing users to access live sport, local entertainment and international content more easily.
Through the integration, subscribers will be able to watch major sporting events and competitions on DStv Stream, including the FIFA World Cup 2026, the English Premier League, and domestic and international rugby competitions.
The agreement builds on an existing strategic partnership between CANAL+ and Samsung, which has already been implemented across 40 markets in Europe, French-speaking Africa and Asia.
David Mignot, CEO of CANAL+ Africa and MultiChoice Group, said the expansion marks “a significant milestone in the synergies created by the combination of CANAL+ and MultiChoice Group.”
He said changing viewing habits across Africa had made it necessary to improve how audiences find and access content on connected devices.
“As viewing habits continue to evolve rapidly across the continent, strengthening the accessibility and discoverability of our content offer on connected devices is key,” Mignot said.
He added that the partnership would make it “even easier for millions of MultiChoice Group’s subscribers” to access content through Samsung Smart TVs.
The companies said the rollout will enhance user experience while supporting wider distribution of digital entertainment services across key African markets.
