Gor Mahia have been crowned the 2025/26 FKF Premier League champions, after reclaiming the Kenyan football throne two weeks ago in dramatic fashion after AFC Leopards suffered a 2-1 defeat to APS Bomet at Kericho Green Stadium.

The result mathematically ended Leopards’ slim hopes of taking the title race to the final stretch and handed K’Ogalo a record-extending 22nd league crown with two matches to spare.

Gor Mahia did not have to kick a ball on the decisive afternoon, but APS Bomet’s victory over their closest challengers confirmed what had been building for weeks – K’Ogalo were once again the kings of Kenyan football.

Head coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor’s triumph marks a major statement in his first season with the club. The Ghanaian tactician has guided Gor Mahia back to the summit after the club lost the crown to Kenya Police last season.

“I’m very excited to have guided the team to win the league this season, and I hope to continue like this next season,” Akonnor said after the title was confirmed.

The victory underlines Gor Mahia’s unmatched dominance in the local game. Their 22nd title further stretches their record as Kenya’s most successful league side and restores belief among their supporters after last season’s disappointment.

Club chairman Ambrose Rachier had earlier moved to motivate the squad by pledging a Sh5 million championship bonus to be shared between the playing unit and the technical bench. He also doubled the winning allowance to Sh10,000 per player for every victory during the title run-in.

This is more than another trophy for the green army. It is a statement of revival, authority and unfinished ambition as Gor Mahia now turn their attention to representing Kenya on the continental stage.
