German football giants Bayern Munich and Dutch powerhouse Ajax Amsterdam are reportedly being lined up for a blockbuster match at Kenya’s Talanta International Stadium in January 2027, ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Sources close to Nairobi Lens have indicated that the two European clubs are expected to face off in a high-profile friendly that could mark the stadium’s inaugural football fixture.

Sources indicate that President William Ruto is expected to announce the proposed encounter on Wednesday evening, October 28.

The clash would bring two of Europe's most decorated football clubs to Nairobi, giving Kenyan fans a rare opportunity to watch elite European football on home soil.

However, neither Bayern Munich nor Ajax has publicly confirmed the fixture, while an official match date and ticketing arrangements remain unclear.

The proposed encounter comes as Kenya steps up preparations to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

The 60,000-seater Talanta Stadium, also known as Raila Odinga International Stadium, is among the country's flagship infrastructure projects for the continental tournament.

During an inspection earlier this month, parliamentary officials reported that construction had reached approximately 94 per cent, although some technical and operational work remained outstanding.

President Ruto had previously disclosed that plans were underway to identify international teams to feature in the stadium's opening match.

"We are looking for some teams to come and play the first match," Ruto said in September.

Meanwhile, the stadium is already scheduled to host international rugby sevens on January 23 and 24, 2027, adding significance to the proposed football fixture.

The Bayern Munich-Ajax encounter will provide a major attraction for Kenyan football supporters and an important test of the stadium's readiness ahead of AFCON 2027.
