Internal Security Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has endorsed President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid, rallying residents of Kisumu and the wider Nyanza region to back his second-term ambition.
Speaking during a visit to Kondele, Omollo cited the government’s development record, pointing to investments in roads, markets, healthcare, education and youth employment.
“As the people of Kisumu, Kondele, and Nyanza, we stand fully united in supporting His Excellency President William Ruto for a second term in office,” he said.
The PS urged young people to acquire national identity cards and register as voters, saying continued support for Ruto would sustain ongoing development projects.
He defended the Kenya Kwanza administration’s development agenda, saying projects were being distributed fairly across the country regardless of ethnicity or region.
Omollo said the government was constructing more than 600 modern markets nationwide to improve working conditions for small-scale traders.
He singled out the Kibuye market project in Kisumu and plans to establish container stalls for Kondele traders currently operating along road reserves.
On security, the PS cited the newly constructed Manyatta Police Station, opened in partnership with MP Shakeel Shabir, saying it would improve policing and public safety.
He also said the creation of additional administrative units was bringing chiefs and assistant chiefs closer to residents, strengthening grassroots security and service delivery.
Omollo welcomed the removal of charges for obtaining and replacing national identity cards, saying easier access would help traders secure loans, open bank accounts and join SACCOs.
The PS also sought to change Kondele’s image, saying the area deserved recognition for its hardworking traders rather than its history of political unrest.
Recalling his upbringing, Omollo said his mother sold second-hand clothes and operated small businesses in Kondele to support their family.
“My mother used to sell her wares here in Kondele. She was a second-hand clothes trader, dealing in mitumba,” he said.
“I can proudly associate myself with Kondele. I am a son of Kondele, a son of Kisumu and a son of this region.”
