Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has pledged to ensure Kenyans can follow the 2027 General Election results live, declaring that the outcome of the presidential race will be known by midnight on election day.
Speaking during rallies in Kiamutugu and Mwea Ngurubani in Kirinyaga County on Sunday, October 25, Kalonzo said the opposition would stream election results on social media platforms and websites to allow Kenyans to monitor the vote count in real time.
“We will stream the results. Kenyans will see the count as it happens,” Kalonzo said.
“We will know the results of the election by midnight.”
His remarks come amid public debate over proposed electoral law changes and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s (IEBC) obligation to livestream election results.
However, the IEBC retains the constitutional mandate to tally, verify and officially declare presidential election results.
Accompanied by Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi and other opposition leaders, Kalonzo also took aim at President William Ruto’s administration over the plight of rice farmers in Mwea.
He accused the government of allowing rice imports from Pakistan that he claimed were benefiting politically connected individuals and cartels at the expense of local farmers.
“Mwea farmers grow the rice. Cartels should not be allowed to eat the profit,” he said.
The former Vice President contrasted the current administration with that of the late President Mwai Kibaki, saying Kenyans had experienced meaningful economic growth and development during Kibaki’s presidency.
“Under Kibaki, Kenyans saw real development. We know what works,” he said.
Turning to opposition politics, Kalonzo warned against attempts to divide leaders seeking to challenge Ruto in 2027.
“Some people are being sent and paid to divide us. Opposition unity is not negotiable,” he claimed.
He announced plans to visit former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at his Wamunyoro home as part of wider consultations aimed at consolidating the opposition ahead of the elections.
“I will go to Wamunyoro. I will knock on every door until the opposition is one,” Kalonzo declared.
