Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has claimed that unnamed individuals are being paid to create divisions within the opposition, warning against attempts to undermine unity ahead of the August 10, 2027 General Election.

Speaking in Kirinyaga County on Sunday, October 25, Kalonzo said he was aware of those allegedly behind the scheme but stopped short of naming them or revealing who was financing their activities.

“I know who is being paid to divide us,” Kalonzo said, dismissing claims of growing differences among opposition leaders.

The former Vice President made the remarks during a church service at ACK Church of Faith in Ithareini, where he was accompanied by Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi and other political leaders.

His comments come amid growing questions over the unity of opposition figures seeking to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 elections.

Kalonzo also addressed his planned visit to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County on Monday, October 26, dismissing suggestions that the meeting was unusual.

He explained that the two have maintained a close friendship since Gachagua’s impeachment in 2024 and that the visit was simply a reciprocal gesture.

According to Kalonzo, Gachagua had previously visited his Tseikuru home in Kitui County, making it only natural for him to return the courtesy.

The planned meeting comes as opposition leaders intensify political engagements across the country amid questions over whether they can settle on a united front before the 2027 polls.

Recent separate political activities by opposition leaders have fuelled speculation about competing interests within the anti-government camp.

However, Kalonzo maintained that he remains committed to opposition unity and urged Kenyans to disregard claims intended to create mistrust among leaders.

Away from politics, Kalonzo renewed his pledge to expand the Nairobi-Mombasa highway into a dual carriageway following a devastating road accident that killed at least 22 people on Sunday.

The crash, involving a bus and a truck, occurred at Kanga near Mtito Andei in Makueni County, leaving several other passengers injured.

Kalonzo expressed concern over the recurring loss of lives along the busy highway, recalling another accident earlier in October that claimed the lives of 17 people, including pilgrims travelling to a national prayer event.

He argued that too many Kenyan families continue to lose loved ones in road accidents and reiterated his commitment to improving the highway’s safety through dualling.

The Wiper leader also addressed the building collapse in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area, which occurred on Friday, October 23.

He led the congregation in a moment of silence for those affected by the tragedy and offered prayers for people feared trapped beneath the rubble.
