Kirinyaga Senator Kamau Murango has been ranked the best-performing senator nationally in a new Infotrak poll assessing lawmakers on their execution of legislative and watchdog roles.

The survey placed Murango ahead of his colleagues in the senate, with Nyandarua senator John Methu and his Murang’a counterpart Joe Nyutu following closely in second and third positions respectively.

According to the poll, the rankings were based on how lawmakers performed in key constitutional responsibilities, including legislation, oversight and representation.

The findings place Murango among the most visible and effective senators in the country, particularly in the senate’s core mandate of safeguarding county interests and holding public institutions to account.

Infotrak said the assessment focused on the “execution of legislative and watchdog roles,” a key measure of how elected leaders are discharging their responsibilities beyond political visibility.

Babu led the Members of Parliament ranking with 80 per cent, followed by Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga at 78 per cent. Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and Taveta MP John Bwire tied in third at 76 per cent.

Among senators, Murango topped nationally with 69 per cent, followed closely by Nyandarua Senator John Methu at 68 per cent and Murang’a Senator Joel Nyutu at 65 per cent.

In the Women Representative category, Njeri Maina led with 67 per cent. West Pokot Woman Representative Rael Kasiwai followed with 61 per cent, while Samburu’s Pauline Lenguris and Kakamega’s Elsie Muhanda tied at 60 per cent.

The poll ranked elected leaders based on citizens’ perception of performance, including visibility, accessibility, responsiveness, trust, communication, delivery and perceived stewardship of public resources.

In the MP category, Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda, Kimilili’s Didmus Barasa, Mogotio’s Reuben Kiborek, Keiyo South’s Gideon Kipkoech, Belgut’s Nelson Koech and Mukurweini’s John Kaguchia Gichohi all scored 73 per cent.

Aldai MP Marianne Kitany, Mumias East MP Peter Salasya, Samburu East MP Jackson Lekumontare and Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako scored 72 per cent each. Mbooni MP Erastus Nzioka followed with 71 per cent, while Changamwe’s Omar Mwinyi and Awendo’s John Walter Owino scored 70 per cent.

In the Senate list, Nandi Senator Samson Cherarkey ranked fourth with 64 per cent, ahead of Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot at 63 per cent. Baringo’s Vincent Kiprono, Kisii’s Richard Onyonka and Makueni’s Dan Maanzo scored 62 per cent each.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Samburu Senator Steve Lelegwe scored 61 per cent, while Mandera Senator Ali Roba and Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua posted 60 per cent. West Pokot’s Julius Murgor, Bomet’s Hillary Sigei and Uasin Gishu’s Jackson Mandago scored 58 per cent each.

Among Women Representatives, Makueni’s Rose Mumo scored 58 per cent, followed by Turkana’s Cecilia Ngiit at 56 per cent, Nandi’s Cynthia Muge at 55 per cent and Homa Bay’s Bensuda Osogo at 54 per cent.

Kitui’s Irene Kasalu and Tharaka Nithi’s Susan Nduyo scored 53 per cent each. Mandera’s Umul Ker Kassim Sheikh, Embu’s Pamela Njeru, Machakos’ Joyce Kamene and Elgeyo Marakwet’s Caroline Jeptoo scored 52 per cent, while Kajiado’s Leah Sankairo and Bomet’s Linet Chepkorir scored 51 per cent.

Infotrak said the 2026 rating captured the views of 87,286 Kenyans across all 47 counties, 290 constituencies and 1,450 wards. Respondents rated MPs, senators and women representatives on a scale of 1 to 10.

The firm clarified that the rating is not a technical audit of attendance, legislative output, committee work, expenditure or CDF utilization. Instead, it reflects citizens’ lived experience and perception of their leaders’ performance between elections.
