The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has dismissed claims of illegal voter registration, unlawful transfers and registration of foreigners, saying no credible evidence has been presented to support the allegations.

In a statement issued Sunday, the commission also rejected claims that Kenya Integrated Elections Management System (KIEMS) kits had been moved to unauthorized locations or outside the country.

“No KIEMS Kit has been misplaced or reported missing, intercepted or unlawfully moved to unauthorized places or foreign destinations,” IEBC said.

The commission said all voter registration kits remain accounted for and under its control, adding that their deployment is governed by approved movement schedules and restricted to authorized registration centres.

IEBC’s Continuous Voter Registration exercise has been running since September 29, 2025, while an enhanced registration drive was conducted between March 30 and April 28, 2026. Official notices provide for registration at constituency offices, Huduma Centres and other designated locations.

IEBC said allegations of electoral malpractice, illegal voter transfers or registration of foreigners remain “unsubstantiated and untrue”, challenging anyone with evidence to submit it for investigation.

“Where credible evidence is presented, the Commission shall take appropriate action,” it said, including disciplinary measures and referral for prosecution where criminal conduct is established.

The commission further clarified that it does not issue national identity cards or passports, saying its mandate is limited to registering eligible Kenyan citizens as voters and maintaining the voters’ register.

IEBC also defended plans to register Kenyans living abroad, saying diaspora voting is provided for under the Constitution and is being expanded progressively.

The commission said it intends to increase diaspora voter registration from 12 countries covered in the 2022 General Election to 26 ahead of the 2027 polls.

It urged the public, media and other stakeholders to report suspected irregularities while distinguishing between verifiable evidence and unsubstantiated allegations.
