Canaan Developers is betting on privacy, green space and flexible living as it develops its Oaks Series of luxury four-bedroom villas in Nairobi’s Spring Valley and Grevillea Grove neighbourhoods.

The series comprises Whispering Oaks in Spring Valley and Enchanting Oaks in Grevillea Grove, Westlands, both designed as tri-level homes within gated and landscaped compounds near Westgate and Sarit Centre.

While the two developments differ in scale and shared amenities, Canaan Developers says the underlying design philosophy is the same: homes should offer privacy, functionality and spaces that adapt easily to everyday family life.

“A villa gives a family space and privacy that an apartment cannot. You are not sharing walls or a lobby with other households,” said Geoffrey Kimemia, Head of Project Management Unit at Canaan Developers Limited.

“When we build our villas, we are building for people who want their home to be a retreat first.”

The design begins at the entrance, where both developments feature double-height foyers and floating staircases.

The ground floors are organised around open living and dining areas, with large windows overlooking gardens and terraces to bring more natural light into the homes.

The kitchens are also divided between a polished main kitchen and a separate chef’s kitchen and pantry, allowing residents to keep heavy cooking away from the main entertaining areas.

At Whispering Oaks, the lounge opens directly onto terraces and private gardens, with expansive glass facades connecting the indoor and outdoor areas.

Enchanting Oaks adds a courtyard and a second outdoor terrace, creating multiple outdoor spaces within the same home.

Kimemia said green spaces have become an increasingly important part of modern residential design.

“A well-designed outdoor area is another living space, not just something you look at through a window,” he said.

“The idea of luxury is becoming more nuanced. It is increasingly about how a space makes you feel; natural light, proportion, texture, privacy and connection to greenery.”

That emphasis continues on the upper floors.

The principal bedrooms in both developments include private lounges, walk-in wardrobes and spacious bathrooms, creating a separate retreat within the house.

Canaan Developers has also incorporated staff quarters, laundry areas and secure two-car parking away from the main entertaining spaces.

Smart lighting, climate control and security systems have been integrated into the homes, with the developer positioning technology as part of the background rather than a dominant feature.

“Good planning is about reducing friction, and we design with that in mind,” Kimemia said.

“We look at the home as a place for restoration as much as it is for activity. People want a place that can support productivity and social life, but also somewhere they can retreat, disconnect and recharge.”

Enchanting Oaks extends the lifestyle offering beyond individual homes with a swimming pool, gym and jogging paths within the gated compound.

Whispering Oaks takes a more private approach, with fewer shared amenities and fewer homes.

The developments come as homebuyers increasingly look beyond square footage to factors such as privacy, flexible spaces, greenery and the ability to work, host guests and relax within the same property.

“People are buying homes for how well they let them live,” Kimemia said.

“The best compliment a developer can get is a customer marveling about never having to think about how well things work, and how well the house fits their lifestyle.”

Enchanting Oaks, currently under construction in Grevillea Grove, Westlands, starts at 5,229 square feet, with prices from USD 698,500.

Whispering Oaks in Spring Valley starts from 4,177 square feet at USD 577,500, with completion projected within two years.
