European club football returns this week following the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with SuperSport lining up a packed schedule of matches across the UEFA Super Cup, English Premier League, La Liga and Serie A on DStv and GOtv.
The action begins on Wednesday, August 12, when Paris Saint-Germain face Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup at 9pm CAT.
PSG head into the fixture looking to extend their recent dominance in European competition, while Villa will be seeking to upset one of the continent’s strongest sides and begin the new campaign with silverware.
Attention will then turn to England, where Premier League champions Arsenal face FA Cup winners Manchester City in the FA Community Shield on Sunday, August 16.
The match, which will be staged in Cardiff, offers an early test for both sides ahead of the Premier League season. Arsenal will be keen to underline their credentials as defending champions, while City begin a new chapter under Enzo Maresca.
The Community Shield clash will be broadcast live from 4pm CAT on SuperSport Premier League, SuperSport Maximo 1, SuperSport Maximo 2 and SuperSport Maximo 360.
Spanish football also returns this weekend, with La Liga’s opening round beginning on Saturday, August 15.
Alaves host Getafe in the first listed fixture before Sevilla face Rayo Vallecano later in the evening. Racing Santander, Villarreal, Espanyol, Levante, Celta and Osasuna are among the teams also in action during the opening weekend.
With Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid joining the campaign after an extended break, the early fixtures offer other sides an opportunity to build momentum before the league’s traditional heavyweights settle into the season.
The second round will bring the big three back into focus. Real Madrid travel to Espanyol on Saturday, August 22, Atletico Madrid host Villarreal the following day, while Barcelona visit Elche.
In England, Arsenal open their Premier League title defence against promoted Coventry on Friday, August 21.
Manchester United travel to Hull the following day, while Tottenham face Brentford. Sunday’s fixtures include Manchester City against Bournemouth, Brighton against Aston Villa and Newcastle against Liverpool.
Chelsea complete the opening round with a London derby away to Fulham on Monday, August 24.
Italian football also gets underway on Saturday, August 22, with defending champions Inter Milan hosting Monza.
Napoli travel to Genoa later that evening, while Juventus begin their campaign away to Frosinone on Sunday. AC Milan face Torino, with Roma and Fiorentina among the teams completing the opening round on Monday.
The return of the major European leagues comes shortly after a World Cup that dominated the football calendar, shifting attention back to club rivalries and another long domestic campaign.
The fixtures will be carried across SuperSport Premier League, SuperSport La Liga, SuperSport Football, SuperSport Action, SuperSport Variety and selected Maximo channels.
