Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has warned the electoral commission against interfering with the 2027 presidential election, claiming the late Raila Odinga was denied victory in three previous contests.

Speaking on Thursday during the 20th anniversary memorial of his mother, Mama Sarah Malia Musyoka, at his Tseikuru home in Kitui County, Kalonzo said the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) must protect the will of voters in the next election.

“Do not subvert the wishes of the majority of Kenyans. You actually subvert the sovereignty of our country. The young people will never forgive you,” Kalonzo said.

His remarks follow former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s recent assertion that Raila won the 2022 presidential election, reopening a dispute that had largely receded from public debate.

ODM leader Oburu Oginga has since questioned why Uhuru did not raise the matter while still in office and why he proceeded with the transfer of power to President William Ruto.

Kalonzo has maintained that Raila was denied the presidency in 2013, 2017 and 2022.

The electoral record, however, differs across the three contests. The Supreme Court upheld Uhuru Kenyatta’s election in 2013, annulled the August 2017 presidential election and ordered a fresh poll, and unanimously dismissed the petition challenging Ruto’s 2022 victory.

Meanwhile, Ruto-allied leaders in Ukambani have pushed back against the renewed claims.

Mwala MP and UDA National Organising Secretary Vincent Musyoka Kawaya questioned how Uhuru could now say Raila won in 2022 yet presided over the transfer of power to Ruto.

Kawaya also challenged Kalonzo to apply the same scrutiny to the 2013 and 2017 elections, in which Uhuru was Raila’s main rival.

Machakos Town MP Caleb Mule separately urged former leaders to allow the current administration to serve its term, arguing that political debate should focus on issues affecting Kenyans rather than repeatedly reopening past elections.
