Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has warned that the political legacy of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is being “compromised”, calling on his supporters to protect the ideals he championed during his decades in politics.
Kalonzo spoke on Sunday during a church service at ACK St Michael and All Angels Cathedral in Bondo, Siaya County, where he was accompanied by DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi and former Jubilee secretary-general Raphael Tuju.
The Wiper leader used the visit to reflect on his long political partnership with Raila, whom he backed in several presidential contests.
“For three political seasons, I stood with Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga because I believed in his message,” Kalonzo said, adding that he would not remain silent as Raila’s legacy was undermined.
Kalonzo also rejected recent characterizations of Raila as a political “project”, saying the former Prime Minister had built his own political influence through years of campaigning for democratic and constitutional reforms.
“Baba was a powerful leader in his own right, NOT a ‘project’,” he said.
He further repeated his claim that Raila had been denied the presidency through electoral manipulation. The claim remains a political position. In the 2022 presidential contest, the Supreme Court dismissed Raila and Martha Karua’s petition challenging William Ruto’s victory and ruled that Ruto’s election was valid.
Kalonzo linked Raila’s political legacy to that of his father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, arguing that both played significant roles in Kenya’s struggle for political freedoms and justice.
He also singled out devolution as one of Raila’s major political legacies, saying the system should be strengthened and protected.
During the service, Kalonzo praised Anglican Diocese of Bondo Bishop David Kodia, who also led part of Raila’s state funeral proceedings in October 2025. Raila was buried in Bondo on October 19, 2025.
Tuju, meanwhile, urged Kalonzo to sustain his engagement with voters in Bondo and the wider Nyanza region, citing his past political partnership with Raila.
Kalonzo said the opposition would continue engaging the region as it builds its political strategy ahead of the 2027 General Election.
