Wiper Patriotic Front party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has claimed that there is a plot to kill former president Uhuru Kenyatta, escalating political tensions at a time when the former Head of State has come under sustained attacks from Kenya Kwanza leaders over his perceived association with the opposition.

Speaking on Monday, Kalonzo alleged that the threats against Uhuru were linked to claims that the former president is supporting opposition activities.

He did not immediately provide evidence to support the claims, but insisted the matter should be treated with urgency given Uhuru’s status as a former Head of State and a citizen entitled to constitutional protection.

“We are also consumers of intelligence, saying that they may have to deal with Uhuru Kenyatta to physically liquidate him. You think. And I am sure Uhuru is not a coward. To physically liquidate is to kill him”, said Kalonzo.

Kalonzo condemned what he described as a coordinated political campaign against Uhuru, saying the former President has a constitutional right to express himself and participate in national discourse. He warned that attempts to silence or intimidate him were dangerous for the country’s democracy.

“When they see Uhuru Kenyatta standing in solidarity with Kalonzo and Rigathi Gachagua they feel threatened, so we are aware. We have that intelligence”, the former Vice President added.

He also criticised efforts to withdraw or frustrate privileges and benefits accorded to a retired president, arguing that the treatment of former leaders should not be weaponized for political reasons.

Kalonzo also issued a warning to the country’s intelligence agency.

“The National Intelligence Service is a national service and it’s not there to just help William Ruto. And I want to tell the Director General, the NIS should be able to bring Kenyans together particularly when it comes to matters of national security. And there is no more important national security issue than a general election”, said Kalonzo.

The Wiper leader further accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of undermining multiparty democracy by failing to release funds owed to political parties through the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties. He said the delay had weakened political institutions and affected parties’ ability to operate effectively.

Kalonzo also used the address to rally the opposition around the United Opposition, saying unity remains the most important pillar as the country heads deeper into the 2027 political season. He warned that any leader who abandons the opposition would be betraying Kenyans at a critical moment.

“The United Alternative Government will be united. The only thing Ruto is banking on is for us to be divided and that will not happen, but anyone who jumps ship will be alone”, the Wiper party leader said.

His remarks come amid renewed political realignments, rising criticism of the government’s performance, and growing debate on the role of former President Kenyatta in opposition politics.

Kalonzo also touched on broader national concerns, including delays in the processing of identity cards and passports, the state of the nation, international relations and diplomacy.

“The ministry on Interior has brought confusion. Somali nationals are buying the Kenyan national ID card on the DRC-Zambia border for $1,500 and passports are also being given to anyone. These things will degrade the country”, said Kalonzo.

He framed it as a test of whether Kenya can protect democratic freedoms, respect former institutions of power and allow political competition without intimidation.
