Detectives have arrested two suspects over violence that disrupted a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) delegates’ meeting in Embu, leaving one person dead and several others injured.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the unrest broke out at Nembure Grounds during a meeting presided over by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and attended by senior national and county leaders.
Several police officers were injured and vehicles torched as groups of youths clashed with security officers in running battles before order was restored.
“Two suspects have already been arrested in connection with the incident,” the DCI said.
Detectives are now pursuing more suspects believed to have taken part in the violence and destruction of property.
The DCI said investigations were continuing to identify those responsible for the criminal acts committed during the unrest.
The agency also issued a warning against political violence, saying disagreements should not be used to justify lawlessness.
“Political differences must never become a license for lawlessness,” the DCI said.
“No grievance, disagreement or political affiliation places anyone above the law.”
The DCI said anyone found to have attacked people, torched vehicles, destroyed property, blocked roads or assaulted police officers would face arrest and prosecution.
“Those who attack others, torch vehicles, destroy property, barricade public roads or assault police officers will be pursued, arrested and brought to justice,” the agency said.
The violence comes as political parties step up grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 General Election, raising fresh concerns over security at political gatherings.
Investigations into the Embu incident are ongoing, with police expected to make further arrests as detectives trace additional suspects linked to the clashes.
