Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli has moved to court against the United States International University-Africa (USIU-A), accusing the institution of delaying the processing of his PhD dissertation and putting his graduation at risk.
Masengeli has filed an urgent petition seeking court orders against the university, arguing that the delay could jeopardise his chances of completing his doctorate.
In his petition, the senior police officer says the university has failed to communicate the outcome of his dissertation or provide clarity on what, if anything, remains outstanding before he can proceed to the final stage of his studies.
Masengeli argues that the lack of communication has left him uncertain about his academic status and whether he will be cleared to graduate.
He accuses USIU-A of “delaying processing his PhD dissertation”, saying the prolonged process is threatening his prospects of graduating with a doctorate degree.
Masengeli further says the university has “not communicated the outcome of his dissertation”, leaving him without clear guidance on the next steps required to complete the programme.
Through the urgent petition, he now wants the court to intervene and compel the university to address the matter.
At the centre of the dispute is the processing of Masengeli’s dissertation, a key requirement before a doctoral candidate can complete the academic process and qualify for graduation.
The police chief maintains that he needs clarity on whether his dissertation has been approved and whether there are any additional academic requirements he must fulfil.
His court action places USIU-A under pressure to explain the status of the dissertation and the circumstances behind the alleged delay.
The court is expected to consider Masengeli’s application and determine whether to issue the orders sought against the university.
