Linda Mwananchi has declared that it will only support Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna as the opposition’s presidential candidate in the 2027 General Election, setting the stage for a possible showdown within the broader anti-government coalition.
Saboti MP and Linda Mwananchi founder Caleb Amisi said the outfit would not accept any other candidate from the united opposition, arguing that the country’s young voters are demanding a new political face to challenge president William Ruto.
Speaking in Kitale, Amisi warned that the opposition risks gifting president Ruto a second term if it fails to read the public mood and settle on a candidate who resonates with younger Kenyans.
“Our generation wants new people, and we cannot afford to mess up in this coming election because young people want a new face in this game,” Amisi said.
He said Linda Mwananchi was intensifying its political mobilisation ahead of 2027 and would push for Sifuna to be adopted as the opposition’s flagbearer.
According to Amisi, the younger generation has lost confidence in the old political class and is now keen on using the 2027 elections to usher in new leadership at the national level.
“The new generation has no confidence in the old politicians. They want new faces to take up leadership of this country,” he said.
His remarks come as opposition leaders continue to navigate the question of unity, strategy and succession ahead of the next presidential contest. While several senior figures are expected to position themselves for the opposition ticket, Amisi’s statement signals growing pressure from younger leaders who argue that the opposition must present a fresh and bold alternative.
Amisi said any political miscalculation by the opposition would weaken its chances of defeating Ruto, insisting that 2027 must not be treated as another routine election.
He maintained that Linda Mwananchi would continue rallying support around Sifuna, whom the group views as best placed to connect with young voters and lead a generational shift in national politics.
